What is rucking?

Rucking explained in English: walk with weight on your back, start easy and get more from an ordinary walk.

Rucking is a normal walk made more useful: put controlled weight in a backpack and move at a pace you can repeat.

The short version

You walk with extra weight in a backpack or weight vest. That adds work for legs, core and cardio without needing running technique or a gym.

For most people the appeal is simple: it still feels like a walk, but your body has to do more.

Why it works

The weight makes every step more demanding. You get a higher heart rate, more stability work and better strength endurance than on a normal walk.

It is easy to scale because you can adjust three things: weight, distance and terrain.

  • Start with 5-10% of bodyweight
  • Keep a conversational pace
  • Wear good shoes
  • Stop for joint pain
